The Light Machine / 2015-16 / as part of Matheson Marcault
The Light Machine is an invitation to create an artwork on an overhead projector, working with cutouts, acetate, physical objects and the players’ own bodies. Players begin by drawing a card which gives them a title for their artwork; they then prepare an image out of both readymade and handcut objects and patterns, and eventually place it onto an overhead projector where it’s projected onto a wall. They are then able to position fabrics, draperies and even themselves in front of the projection before it is documented and added to a growing gallery of work.
The Light Machine was originally commissioned by the Barbican for their Serious Play weekend. It has also run twice at Discover Story Centre events. Pictures here are copyright Susana Sanroman.
